FERPA Confidentiality
The University of West Georgia complies with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, also known as FERPA, which prohibits the release of educational records without student permission.
FERPA states that the university, its agents, faculty, state, and administrations are not allowed to share educational information about any student with anyone (including parents and spouses) without the written authorization consent of the student. Walk-In Customer Service Confidentiality Policy
Students who wish to know specific information (i.e. types of awards and/or amounts, etc.) about their financial aid records are required to provide the Financial Aid Office with their UWG ID number. Information concerning a student's file will not be released to a parent, spouse, or any other relative without the written consent of the student. You may, however, obtain specific information regarding your financial aid file by visiting BanWeb. We will accept other identifying information for new students who are in the process of applying to UWG have not received their ID card or number.
Telephone Customer Service Confidentiality Policy
Only general information (i.e. forms required to complete your financial aid file, whether your file is complete or not) will be released via phone. Information concerning a student's file will not be released to a parent, spouse, or any other relative without the written consent of the student. However, if a parent's information is provided on the FAFSA, the Financial Aid Office may release general information regarding a student's financial aid file. The student, however, may obtain specific information regarding their financial aid file by visiting BanWeb. Social Security numbers will not be accepted over the phone.
