General Fine Arts Track

The BFA Program is considered to be the professional degree for those students interested in graduate school or pursuing other career opportunities in the visual arts. The intensity of this degree results in students becoming proficient in a specific studio area while augmenting it with studio areas outside their concentration.

Note:

At the conclusion of Mid-Program Review Students must:

  • Develop and submit a plan that outlines how they will complete their GFA Studio Sequence for approval as part of the Mid-Program review.

A plan may not include more than 9 hours in any area of focus without departmental approval. The areas of focus are limited to 3000 and 4000 studio courses in 33XX, 36XX, 37XX, 38XX, and 39XX. As part of the plan students will choose between:

  • Option 1. Completing a General Advanced Studio Sequence of 6 hrs. in one of the five areas of study and then take two additional Advanced studios (3hrs.) from different areas for a total of 12 hrs.
  • Option 2. Completing 4 different Advanced Studio General Fine ART Studio (3hrs.) classes ART 4304 or 4605 or 4706 or 4805 or 4904 for a total of 12 hrs.

  • Visit the Center for Academic Success (if you want some extra help).
  • Talk with your mentor about the BA and the BFA degree plans.

  • Visit Career Services to help you determine next steps for your academic or professional goals. 
  • Present your art or art history research at Scholars’ Day.
  • Meet with your art mentor, talk about your post graduation goals. 
  • Consider becoming a Peer Tutor.

Broaden Your Perspectives

First Year:

  • Go to an Art Exhibition Reception.
  • Attend a capstone exhibition.
  • Attend the Faculty or Alumni Exhibition and Reception in the Fall.

Middle Years:

  • Participate in Critique with a Visiting Artist.
  • Attend a visiting artist lecture.
  • Initiate an SRAP grant with art faculty.
  • GPA 3.2 or above? Consider applying to the Honors Program.

  • Draft Artist Statement and think about Resume development (experience, skills, exhibitions).

  • Take part in the Art Atelier.
  • Apply for a Student Assistant position.

Last Year:

  • Prepare Resume/Portfolio.
  • Apply for Jobs/Graduate School.
  • Hold a leadership position ie. ASU President.
