Sarah Elias, D.M.A.

Dr. Sarah Elias joined the music faculty at University of West Georgia as a full-time professor in January of 2023.  A native of Northwestern Virginia, Dr. Elias moved to Mississippi in 2004, studying at Belhaven University under Dr. Stephen W. Sachs. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music in 2008 and went on to receive her Masters of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy and her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance from University of Southern Mississippi under the instruction of Dr. Elizabeth Moak.  Dr. Elias has performed and competed in a number of venues, winning concerto and solo competitions in multiple states, and has appeared in Master Classes with piano greats including Anton Nel, Melvin Chen, and Alon Goldstein.  She studied privately with Petronel Malan and Sun Mi Cheon.  Dr. Elias served as an adjunct music faculty member at Belhaven University from 2011-2019, where she taught keyboard and music theory courses.  She has worked as a private piano teacher, professional accompanist, and church music leader since 2000, and as a piano tuner since 2017.  Dr. Elias moved to Georgia in the spring of 2019 and served as a staff accompanist and temporary music faculty member at University of West Georgia from January 2020-December 2022.  She is married to her husband, Mike, and together they have six children.
