Wooyoung (William) Jang, Ph.D.

Wooyoung William Jang (Ph.D.) is an Assistant Professor at University of West Georgia in the Department of Sport Management, Wellness, and Physical Education within the Sport Management program. His research interests focus on exploring different aspects of consumer behavior, primarily in the context of esports. His second line of research examines how sport consumers perceive sport venues' social and physical environments.

He has published several research papers in well-known journals, including the European Sport Management Quarterly (ESMQ), International Journal of Sports Marketing and Sponsorship (IJSMS), Computers in Human Behavior (CHB), and Sport Marketing Quarterly. He has presented his research projects at national and international sport management and marketing conferences, including the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM) and the Sport Marketing Association (SMA). He has actively sought internal and external research funding. He was awarded the 2021 College of Education Seed Grant and the 2022 Global Sport Business Association (GSBA) Junior Faculty Research Grant.

For professional service, William serves as an editorial board member in IJSMS and the Journal of Electronic Gaming and Esports (JEGE). He has actively participated in a reviewer service for several relevant peer-reviewed academic journals, including ESMQ, IJSMS, CHB, and the International Journal of Sport Communication. For institution service, he has served as committee chair of the Esports Advisory Council and Esports Research sub-committee. Also, he has served as a committee member for Personnel Committee, Faculty Development, Retention and Mentoring, and search committees for the tenure-track assistant professor position and esports coach.

Before joining University of West Georgia, Dr. Jang taught and assisted undergraduate courses as an Associate Instructor for four years at Indiana University. He received his Ph.D. in the Sport Management program at Indiana University in Bloomington. William obtained a master's degree in Sport Management from the University of Georgia and received an undergraduate degree in Golf Management from Kyung-Hee University in South Korea.
