Walter Riker, Ph.D.

Dr. Riker joined UWG in 2008. One of his main research interests is human rights. In particular, Dr. Riker looks at ways human rights might be secured in non-democratic societies. His other main research interest is disobedience. He has written on conscientious objection for health care professionals, as well as on justifications for flouting of social rules, such as occurs in cases of rudeness.

Dr. Riker has a strong interest in promoting ethics awareness at UWG and more generally in the local community. In addition to teaching several different courses in ethics, he coaches UWG's intercollegiate ethics bowl team, organizes and runs the West Georgia High School Ethics Bowl, and serves on UWG's Ethics Awareness Week committee.
