Dave Bush, Ph.D.

Professor of Geology in the Department of Natural Sciences, Geology Program, at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Georgia. Received B.S. in Geology from the State University of New York, College at Oneonta in 1975, and both M.S. (in 1977) and Ph.D. (in 1991) in Geology from Duke University, Durham, North Carolina. Joined the faculty of UWG in 1995. Previously worked for Pennzoil Company in Houston, Texas, as an exploration geophysicist for six years; for the U. S. Geological Survey in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as a coastal and marine geologist for two years; and for the Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines at Duke University as a Research Associate for four years. 
Current research focuses on coastal storm processes and coastal hazards, especially along the Southeastern U.S. Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts, and the Caribbean. Author of several books, book chapters, and peer-reviewed journal articles dealing with coastal hazards, risk assessment, property damage mitigation, hurricane impacts, and coastal hazards of developed shorelines. Editor-in-Chief of the peer-reviewed journal Southeastern Geology and is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Coastal Research. Research Fellow in the Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines. Teaches undergraduate courses in oceanography, geomorphology, and risk assessment, and graduate courses in oceanography for teachers and earth science for teachers.
