Our diverse coursework enables you to explore the power of stories and prepares you for a variety of career paths:

• Courses in literary and film traditions explore how stories are constructed and what they reveal about the places and the people that created them.
• A full range of creative writing courses will give you the opportunity to shape and share your own stories.
• Courses in editing and professional writing will help you apply the lessons of storytelling—how to frame ideas, understand audiences and argue persuasively—to a variety of career paths in business, law, publishing, and writing.
• For future teachers, courses focused on pedagogy will help you learn how to share your love of stories with the next generation.

Students also have social and professionalization opportunities through our Undergraduate Humanities Research Conference and our campus chapter of the national English Honor Society. English also supports interdisciplinary minor programs in Film Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Africana Studies.

Our M.A. programs offer a variety of advanced seminars in literary studies, writing, and pedagogy. Research and teaching assistantships are available to qualified graduate students.
